Wat Chedi Jed Yod
in
Chiang Mai
is one of the most important sanctuaries of northern Thailand and is also known
by the name Wat Photharam Maha Wihaan (fig.).
It was built in
1455 by the royal command of King
Tilokarat XI, the then
monarch of the
Lan Na
Kingdom. The
main temple building with seven stupas is a replica of
the
Maha Bodhi
Temple (fig.)
at
Bodh Gaya in
India.
