city of the Lawa people, which was called Wiang Nopburi,
during the reign of King Mengrai as the new centre of the
Lan Na Kingdom, after
Chiang Rai,
and was initially known as Noppaburi Sri Nakhon Ping Chiang
Mai, with Ping being the name of the nearby river. |
