Wat Buppharam (วัดบุพพาราม)

Thai. Name of a Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai, which was founded in 1497 AD by Phaya Meuang Kaew, a Lan Na king who reigned from 1495 to 1526 AD, though most of the temple buildings date to later periods, such as the 1819 built teak ordination hall with waen fah glass inlay. The compound also houses a Burmese-style chedi, said to have been rebuilt in 1958. The temple's main prayer hall has a handrail in the shape of a multi headed naga (fig.), as well as makara (fig.) at the entrances. It houses three principal Buddha images, two of which are in the marapajon pose with a bhumisparsa mudra (fig.). One, a replica  of the Phra Phutta Sihing Buddha statue (fig.) is seated in the lotus position (fig.), whilst the other two are seated in the half lotus position (fig.), one of which is a replica of the Emerald Buddha in summer attire (fig.) seated in the meditation pose while performing a pahng samahti mudra (fig.).
