After WW II, the State Railway of Thailand imported 30 Pacific 4-6-2 Steam Engines, No. 821 to No. 850, as well as 70 Mikado 2-8-2 Steam Engines, No. 901 to No. 970, from Japan, which were put in service in between 1949 and 1951. Of these No. 953 is still serviceable, whilst the others were decommissioned, yet No. 943 (fig.) is kept on display at the Railway Park, in the back of Chatuchak Park (fig.).

Two of these so-called 4-6-2 Pacific Steam Locomotives, i.e. Engines No. 824 (fig.) and No. 850 (fig.), are still operative today, as here in tandem on 5 December 2017 during Wan Chaleum Phra Chonma Phansa, i.e. the birthday of the late King Bhumipon Adunyadet.

On this day, it made a nostalgic ride between the capital Bangkok and the city of Chachengsao. As such, the front engine has been adorned with the national flag of Thailand on one side and the personal flag of the King (fig.) on the other side.

Here, the train is seen passing through and briefly halting at Hua Mahk train station. Originally, these engines ran on coal, but they have been modified and converted to run on diesel.
