In Nepal, the
Ashtamangala,
i.e. the
eight auspicious symbols, are often found on gates (fig.)
and doors. The four symbols on the
left panel here are the
Conch (fig.);
the
Lotus
(fig.);
the
Chinese Knot
(fig.);
and
the
Chattra (fig.),
whilst the symbols on the right panel are the Royal Banner;
the
Kalasa;
the Pair of
Fish
(fig.);
and the
Dhammachakka.
Above this door is a carving of a
kala face. |
