Malaeng phi is the Thai name for any insect that camouflages as a stick, dry twig or withered leave. These ones, disguised as walking sticks are also commonly known as stick bugs. This one is a Siam Giant Stick Insect, probably a female of the genus Tirachoidea siamensis.

In Thai, these may also be referred to as takkataen king mai (fig.). This species is a Siam Slender Stick Insect, known scientifically as Ramulus siamensis.
