In Thai, grasshoppers are known as takkataen, which is the generic name for all members of the Acrididae family, i.e. the predominant family of grasshoppers.

In addition, the term is also used as a prefix in the name for members of other families of grasshoppers, such as mantises and stick insects, etc.

The specific species seen here was spotted in northern Vietnam.
