Fingered citrons are inedible lemon-like citrus fruits, with segmented, finger-like sections, which gave it the nickname ‘Buddha's hand’, which in Chinese is fu shou.

Since the first word sounds like fu, i.e. ‘happiness’, the fruit is regarded as a fruit of abundance and is typically used as a religious offering in Buddhist temples (fig.).
