Wat Ek Phnom
Wat Ek Phnom, i.e. ‘Temple of the Prime Hill’, is a temple near the Cambodian city of Battambang.
It consists of two parts, i.e. a modern Buddhist section, with a prayer hall and a giant Buddha statue.
This image is seated on a concrete building that is flanked by statues of mendicant monks.
Inside this rather simple sanctuary are a number of bright colour-painted Buddha images.
The other part of the temple is Hindu and ancient, and dates back to the 11th century AD and which was built in the reign of King Suryavarman I.
There are also modern edifices with towers in the Khmer style.
