Nan Phaya Kyaung (နန်းဘုရားကျောင်း)
Burmese name of a 11th
century AD temple in the village of Myinkaba, near
Bagan,
and which name means ‘Palace Pagoda’
or ‘Palace Temple’. It was built by the captive
Mon King
Makuta
(fig.)
of the
Thaton Kingdom and is located
adjacent to
Mahuna Phaya (fig.),
another temple built by this King.
Nan Phaya Kyaung was used as the residence of this King and is
dedicated to the
Hindu
god
Brahma (fig.).
In English, the name is usually abbreviated to Nan Phaya Temple.
