Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden
A garden in the forested mountains of the
ampheu
Mae Rim (แม่ริม), in
Chiang Mai
Province, dedicated to the collection, cultivation, and display of a wide
range of mostly subtropical and tropical plants, labeled with their
botanical names. The botanical garden opened in 1992, initially under the
name Mae Sa (แม่สา) Botanical Garden, but was in 1994 renamed after Queen
Sirikit.
The 2,000

purpose is to conduct and promote botanical research, biodiversity, and to
conserve Thailand's natural plant resources. There are plants, shrubs, trees
and flowers on show outside, as well as inside, in a number of greenhouses,
and in 2015, a canopy
walkway was introduced, allowing visitors access to the treetops of the
surrounding forest (fig.),
as well as a stunning bird's eye view. In Thai, the Queen Sirikit
Botanical Garden is known as Suan Phreuksasaht
Somdet
Phra
Nang
Chao
Sirikit (สวนพฤกษศาสตร์สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์),
and its official name in English is
Queen Sirikit Botanic
Garden.
