The courtyard of Shwezigon Phaya in Bagan. This temple was completed in 1102 AD, in the reign of King Kyansittha (fig.), and one of the four temples (fig.) entwined in the Shwe Daw Lay Su legend of King Anawrahta (fig.).

A the present-day main entrance to this inner courtyard is a small mandapa-style tazaung that houses a Buddha image standing on a lotus pedestal and performing a varada mudra. Akin to Ananda Phaya (fig.), the terraces surrounding the base of the stupa originally featured 550 glazed terracotta tiles of a dark greyish-green colour.

They portray scenes of the jataka, as swell as other Buddhist legends and parables (fig.), though some tiles are nowadays missing.
