Kyansittha (ကျန်စစ်သား)

Burmese. Name of the second son of King Anawrahta (fig.), who succeeded his brother King Saw Lu as King of Bagan (fig.) and reigned from 1084 to ca. 1112-1113 AD. He is famed as a competent warrior of courage and a great ruler who consolidated the Bagan Kingdom, which was founded by his father King Anawrahta. His main achievements include the completion of his father's Shwezigon Phaya (fig.) and the construction of Ananda Phaya (fig.). His son was Prince Yaza Kumar, who as a Prince is sometimes referred to as Rajakumar, and who dedicated the Yaza Kumar Stone Inscription (fig.) to his father's honour. See also TRAVEL PICTURE. 回
