  tri-pundra

India

A tri-pundra is a pundra or sectarian mark, that consists of three horizontal lines. It is applied by Saivites, primarily on the forehead and usually accompanied by a red dot, but may also be applied on other parts of the body, such as the chest and –as seen here– on the biceps and lower arms. It is generally drawn with ashes, which are often taken from cremation pyres.
