The coat of arms
of
Phayao
shows a Buddha image seated in the
maravichaya position flanked
on both sides by ears of rice and overarched by seven
kranok motifs. The image refers to the Ton
Luang image (fig.) in Wat Sri Kohm Kam, the largest Buddha image in North Thailand and of old an important symbol (kuh bahn kuh meuang)
of Phayao. The seven flaming motifs (kranok) refer to the seven
amphur
of this province and the ears of rice are symbolic of the fertility of the soil.
