HISTORY & MONARCHY

  Kannaphon Phetcharat

Thailand

Portrait of Princess Kannaphon Phetcharat, the daughter of Queen Sunandha Kumariratana (fig.) and King Chulalongkorn (fig.), who was killed on 31 May 1880, when the boat (fig.) she was traveling in on her way to the Royal Summer Palace (fig.) in Bang Pa-in got involved in an accident and capsized.

Despite the presence of many onlookers, she and her mother, together with her daughter and an unborn son, drowned because no one dare come to their rescue, as it was then a capital crime for commoners to touch any royal, even in order to save their lives.
