During the annual celebrations of the Vegetarian Festival in downtown Phuket, also known as the Nine Emperor Gods Festival, participants receive the imprint of an auspicious Chinese seal on the back of their shirt, made with red seal paste.

It is proof of their participation and the reward for their commitment to the nine days festival, that includes crossing the bridge of purification set up at each shrine, where the devotees walk barefoot over lit candles.
