krathong sai
Unlike ordinary krathong, that are originally made with slices of the trunk of a banana plant, krathong sai, used in the festival of Loi Krathong Sai Lai Prathip Phan Duang (fig.) in Tak, are made of ka-lah, i.e. halved coconut shells.
Nowadays, the halved coconut shells are filled with candle wax and a thick wick at the centre, which is fixed in place into the wax, while the outside is. often fashioned in the form of flowers (fig.).
