In The Legend Of Kung Fu at the Red Theatre in Beijing, an old Shaolin abbot burns jieba dots (fig.) on the head of a novice with an incense stick.

The practice, which scars and can be rather painful, has in the past been banned by the Chinese government, but is since 2007 again partially allowed.
