The name refers to 22 July 1917, the date Thailand entered the Great War by declaring war on the German and the Austro-Hungarian empires and sending an Expeditionary Force to France to serve on the Western Front. The lanterns in the park are topped with a wachira (fig.), in reference to King Wachirawut.
