Wat Umong
is an ancient Buddhist temple in
Chiang Mai,
located in a 37.5
rai
wooded area southwest of the old city centre and built
in the reign of
King
Mengrai
(fig.).
The main
part of the temple complex consists of a labyrinth of
tunnels and is reminiscent of —and perhaps inspired by—
the so-called
gu-style
cave
temples in
Myanmar.
