Thailand

Off the beaten track and tucked away in a quiet corner along some Khlong Lat Khi Lek, a small canal in western Bangkok, Wat Poh Thong in Bangkok's Jomthong District features a great variety of unique statues of Buddhist and Hindu mythology.

The temple also features a large teak building in traditional style which in the front has an outdoor altar with a variety of deities, including statues of several yak (giants), Phaya Suban (Garuda), Phra Sangkatjaai seated on a turtle, Phra Siam Thewathiraat, etc.

To the left on the outside of the southern entrance to the temple complex is a Buddha image in the Pahng nahg prok pose, in which the snake coils its body around the Buddha, rather than depicted as usual, i.e. with the Buddha seated in meditation on the coiled body of the naga (fig.).

There is also a sala-like edifice, known the ‘Palace of the Naga-King Phaya Muchalinda’, which houses a number of rather unique statues, including one of Tao Ramathep, Phra Upakhut (Shin U Pagok), Phra Siwalih (Shin Thiwali), etc.
