Wang Nah or the ‘Front Palace’,
was used as
the residential
palace of the
Krom Phra
Rachawang Bowon Sathaan Mongkon, i.e. the viceroy
or vice-king, though it was on occasions also used as a residence by members of the
ruling royal family.
This palace
dates from the
Ayutthaya
period and is located on the
West bank of the Pa Sak River. It was built in the reign of King
Naresuan (fig.)
and is also known as Chankasem. Today, part of it houses the local
National
Museum of Ayutthaya.
