The escutcheon of
Trat shows has a sailing boat, floating pontoon
with fishing traps and the island of Koh Chang,
illustrating its connections to the sea and
offshore fishing. The name Trat is probably derived from a locally abundant
shrub called ‘krat’ from which the local people used to make brooms. The region
was formerly called ‘Krat’, but was later
changed to Trat.
