  Tham Krasae

Thailand

Tham Krasae (กระแซ) is a small cave in the north-western Thai province of Kanchanaburi, located in a cliff along the Death Railway (fig.) and overlooking the Kwae Noi River that flows in the valley below.

It most likely gets its name from this as krasae (กระแส), with a slightly different spelling in Thai, means ‘current’ or ‘stream’. The cave houses a Buddhist shrine with several Buddha images, including this crowned Buddha, as well as some other religious statues. Besides this, the are some remarkable natural rock formations, many in the shape of an animal (fig.).
