fish:
1.
Climbing Perch (Anabas
testudineus), in Thai called
pla
moh thai (ปลาหมอไทย); 2. Siamese Tigerfish (Datnioides pulcher),
in Thai
known as pla seua toh laai yai (ปลาเสือตอลายใหญ่) -
NOTE: whereas the Thai text on the stamp reads pla seua toh
(ปลาเสือตอ), i.e. the generic name for all fish of the genus
Datnioides, the Latin name on the stamp is Datnioides
microlepis, which is the scientific name for the Indonesian
Tigerfish, known in Thai as pla seua toh
indonesia (ปลาเสือตออินโดนีเซีย), yet in fact the image
depicts the Siamese
Tigerfish, which black bands are broader and one less in
number than those of the Indonesian Tigerfish, while the
black band underneath the adipose fin is also shorter; 3.
Metallic Sheatfish or Common Sheatfish (Kryptopterus apogon), in Thai called pla
nahm ngun (ปลาน้ำเงิน)
- NOTE: the Thai text on the stamp reads pla neua oun (ปลาเนื้ออ่อน),
a name that more accurately refers to the nominate family,
i.e. Siluridae; 4.
Seven-striped Barb or Jullien's Golden Carp (Probarbus jullieni), in Thai
referred to as pla yih sok (ปลายี่สก). |
