The Taukkyan War Cemetery is owned and maintained by the Commonwealth War Grave Commission, and mostly contains the
remains of Allied soldiers who
served in Myanmar during the Burma Campaign in World War
II. |
In
addition, a few victims of
World War I have
also been buried here, The cemetery
is located
in Taukkyan Town, in the township of Mingaladon near Yangon
and is the largest of the three war cemeteries in
Myanmar.

One of the others is the Thanbyuzayat War
Cemetery, which mainly contains the graves of
those who died during the construction of
the
Thailand-Burma Railway. |
Taukkyan cemetery
has 6,374
graves mostly with remains gathered from isolated
jungles graves, as well as from the original battlefield cemeteries
at Akyab, Mandalay, Meiktila and Sahmaw. |
