  Suwannaphum Airport Kinnaris

Thailand

Lining the main road into and from Suwannaphum International Airport (fig.) in Samut Prakan, are bronze statues of Kinnaris, i.e. mythical creatures, half-bird half-woman (fig.), in a phranommeua gesture (fig.), i.e. making a respectful wai (fig.).

Performing the traditional Thai greeting with the hands brought together in front of the chest, they welcome and bid farewell to all travelers arriving and leaving from Thailand's prime airport (fig.). Perhaps to emphasize the airport's name, which means ‘Golden Land’, these statues were later on gilded.
