Shanghai History Museum, located inside the Oriental Pearl Tower (fig.), houses a large collection of replicas of ancient streets, buildings, and shop houses from the city's past.

The exhibition is set up in such a way that it gives visitors the feeling as if one is walking in the ancients streets themselves, often allowing for a glimpse inside the shops, trade or tea houses one passes by.

The replica's emphasize the city's important role in trade, both domestically, like this shop for women's shoes, and internationally.

There are also several life-sized replicas of old-style workshops, where former crafts and the production of traditional Chinese consumer goods are displayed.

Besides the many life-sized models, there are also plenty of miniature scaled models depicting the city's historic highlights, as well as its landmark buildings.
