of the subspecies Lonchura punctulata topela (i.e. the nearby spotted parents
had white underparts with distinctive brown scale markings), spotted in a
Pattaya garden, in
Chonburi
province.
Juvenile
birds
lack the scaly markings of adults (fig.), and instead have uniform buff underparts, whilst their
upperparts are pale brown.

This particular one was chased by a dog and flew straight
into a swimming pool, yet was saved in time and consequently willingly posed for
this picture.
