A rove beetle. In Thai it
is called
duang kon kradok, meaning ‘tilted-ass
beetle’, referring to this beetle's raised posterior.
Its scientifc
name Paederus
fuscipes refers to the fact that
this beetle's haemo-lymph contains
pederin, a potent toxin which is
released when it is crushed against
the skin, and which causes severe
blistering.
