There are four main styles of Reuan Thai, one for each of the four areas of Thailand. This one is in central Thai style, the roofs decorated with an antefix, i.e. an upright ornament at the lower edge of the roof and in Thai called ngao (fig.), which means ‘hook’.

This one in northern Thai style and due to the cooler climate, it has smaller windows, whereas for strength the outer walls are often built sloping outwards towards the roof, which at the ridge has an X-shaped ornament known as kalae (fig.).

This one in northeastern Thai style and the roofs have an upward pointing wooden pole or pin at the ridge, as well as at the lower edge of the roof, where normally the ngao or antefix of central traditional houses is located.

The last one is in southern Thai style and has a similar pole at the top of the gable, but with a decorative triangular pattern of carved wood on each side of the pole. This additional part is known to southern Muslims by the Yawi name boowa himoo tong.

In addition, the windows and doors have a fan-shaped opening over them for light and ventilation.
