  Phaya Thonzu Taung

Phaya Thonzu Taung, i.e. the Mountain Temple of the Three Buddhas, located in Kyaihtiyo, features a large Buddha statue known as Gotama Buddha Phaya Gyi.

 

The Buddha is and seated in the lotus position, with the legs crossed on top of each other and the feet resting on the opposite thigh, the sole of the feet up.

Its hand position is known as an abhaya mudra, i.e. the right hand raised and palm forward, symbolizing ‘calm’, ‘reassurance’ and ‘no fear’.
