  Naresuan Maha Raj

Statue of King Naresuan, absolute ruler of Ayutthaya from 1590 until 1605 AD, who is deemed a Maha Raj, i.e. a ‘Great King’, at Uthayaan Rachaphak (fig.). He defeated the Burmese Crown Prince in a duel on elephants during the 1593 Battle of Nong Sarai (fig.) and thus liberated Ayutthaya from the vassal yoke of Burma.
