The name of Myinmo Taung in Inwa (fig.) means ‘Mount Meru’, and the brick tower is said to represent this mythological sacred and golden mountain.

In both Hindu and Buddhist cosmology, it is believed that Mt. Meru is the centre of the Universe and the abode of the gods.

Yet, today the rooftop is mostly visited for its rewarding views of the area, including the adjacent Lawka Dotha Mahn Aung Pagoda (fig.) and Win Ga Bar.
