  Mahar Myat Mu Ni

Myanmar

Mahar Myat Mu Ni is a Buddhist temple located near the village of Nar Hee, in the scenic Shan highlands, some 35 kms south of the state capital Taunggyi. The main stupa and adjacent prayer hall is surrounded by a collection of hundreds of smaller stupas.

Most of the smaller stupas are built in ranks with the main stupa in the center, whilst there is another collection of smaller stupas in the northeastern corner of the complex which are not part of the ones built in ranks. Though the stupas have recently been painted gold, in the past they used to be white.

The main prayer hall houses a Jambupati Buddha Image (fig.), styled in the manner of the Mahamuni Buddha image (fig.) in Mandalay, of which the name is usually transliterated Maha Myat Muni, yet using the same designation often given to the the Shakyamuni or historical Buddha in Myanmar.
