pleuak khai wichit (เปลือกไข่วิจิตร)

Thai. ‘Artistic eggshell’ or ‘fine eggshell’. An art form in which both small and large bird eggshells, such as the hard and strong eggs of ostriches, are decorated. In Thailand, the art is a combination of common egg art and cloisonné, and is hence also referred to as eggshell cloisonné. Besides decorative items (fig.), also practical objects are made, such as small evening handbags and purses (fig.).
