Egyptian Vulture

Common name for a  diurnal bird of prey, which is found in southern Asia, as well as in southern Europe and parts of Africa. Adults are white, with black flight feathers, and a yellowish naked face, and long buffish feathers around the neck. The bill is long and slender, and the tip of the upper mandible is bent downward, while the nostril is an elongated horizontal slit. It has the scientific designation Neophron percnopterus and besides the nominate race, there are several subspecies, including Neophron percnopterus percnopterus and Neophron percnopterus ginginianus. While the former subspecies has a yellowish bill with a black tip, the latter has an all pale bill. Both subspecies are found on the Indian subcontinent, with Neophron percnopterus percnopterus occurring mainly in the Northwest and Neophron percnopterus ginginianus occurring all over the Indian subcontinent.
