In Thailand, jasmine (fig.) is known as ma-li and its pure white flower is considered a symbol for maternal love, and –as such– it has been assigned to be the flower of Wan Mae, i.e. ‘Mother Day’. This species is Sambac or Arabian Jasmine, known in Thai as ma-li son (มะลิซ้อน).
