The Hien Luong Bridge over the Ben Hai
River, alos known as the Peace Bridge, at the Demili-tarized
Zone in Quang Tri Province,
which connects Xuan Hoa in
Southern
Vietnam with Hien Luong in Northern Vietnam. |
Here,
at the 17th Parallel,
Vietnam
was split
as a result of the
1954
Geneva Accord
(fig.). The country wasn't reunified until after
North Vietna-mese victory in
the Vietnam War in 1975. |

The white line painted in the
middle of the bridge, where the color of the balustrade changes from blue to
yellow, is the exact border between the North and the South. |
Located at the southern bank of the
river, in straight line with the southern bridgehead,
stands today the
Unified Memorial of Hope (fig.),
whereas on the northern side stands
this memorial portal to Ho Chi Minh. |
