Diyu, the Underworld or Hell, i.e. the realm of the dead, in Chinese-Taoist mythology (fig.).
The souls of the dead are brought here to atone for their earthly sins.
As seen in this diorama, the place has highly imaginative chambers where sinners are cruelly tortured by devils.
