Dhammayangyi Phaya
is the largest of all
temples in
Bagan and
was built by
the 12th century King
Na-rathu, presumably to atone
for his sins and to raise his stature.
The interlocking, mortarless brick-work, best appre-ciated
on the upper terraces, which are accessible by hid-den stairways, is said to rank
as the finest in Bagan.
