To mark
the 100th anniversary of the abolition
of slavery in
Thailand,
which in 1905 was facilitated by King
Rama V,
who also provided the newly freed slaves with commodities,
such as land, cattle, housing and working tools, in order to
allow them to start their lives as free men.
By enactment of the Slavery
Abolishment Act in 1905, slavery trade became illegal. The
value of slaved became nil and they became free citizens.
People were forbidden to sell themselves into slavery and
there was to be no further sale or purchase of slaves. |
