A statue of Budong, who is also known as Fudo Myoo and Acalanatha (fig.). He is typically portrayed with a blue complexion, holding a vajra sword and seated in the lotus position, in front of a flaming nimbus. Here, the tongue of the flame above his head has the shape of a rooster, referring to the fact that in China, Budong is deemed the protector of those born in the Year of the Rooster.

The flaming nimbus is said to be the flame of the Garuda (fig.), a savage, fire breathing, mythological bird. Hence, in iconography the features of a bird can sometimes be discovered entangled in the flames.
