In the capital of China, a peculiar exotic food market, commonly referred to as the Beijing Insect Market, has long been a daily evening attraction in Dong Hua Men Street, amid rumours that it will allegedly close down.

Besides invertebrates and a variety of creepy crawlies, also other exotic species, such as snakes and starfish, are on the menu, mostly skewered on bamboo sticks and referred to as satay (fig.).

Fact is that the market indeed confirms the Chinese saying, that Chinese people eat everything on four legs, except for the table, and even that might be a euphemism.
