  Bagaya Kyaung (wood carvings)

In 1821, the 16th century AD wooden Bagaya Kyaung monastery in Inwa (fig.) was burnt in a fire. Despite later renovations, soot and black residue from the fire is still visible on large parts of the wooden structure today.

 

Some parts, like this wooden enclosure, show only minor effects from the blaze.

Though, other parts, such as this door panel, have been burnt to near charcoal status.
