  pahng proht Alavaka yak

Thailand

In the pahng proht Alavaka yak pose, the Buddha is depicted preaching to the yak Alavaka, in consequence subduing this man-eating ogre, who lived in a banyan tree and saving prince Hatthaka, the son of the king who ruled over the kingdom of Alavi, from being eaten. The prince consequently became a disciple of the Buddha and is later described as one of his foremost lay male adherents.
