The old
Ava bridge
or
southern bridge to
Sagaing (fig.)
across the
Irrawaddy River (fig.)
near Mandalay. It was built by the British in 1934 and was destroyed
by the retreating British Army during World War II.
It was rebuilt in 1954, after Burmese
independence, and consists of a single rail track flanked by a road
on either side.
