Skilled craftsmen carving wooden statuettes of increasing sizes of natsaw, i.e. Burmese angelic beings, that are used to protect certain buildings, as well as the people residing within it.

 

These will replace the existing yet dilapidated ones on the corners of the terrace balustrade of Shwenandaw Kyaung (fig.).

The roof of this wooden edifice in Mandalay, in English referred to as the Golden Palace Monastery, is also covered with countless statuettes of natsaw, mostly of the same size.
