Thailand

A wok full of silk pupae (photo left) and other fried insects (photo below), known in Thai as malaeng thod (fig.) and for sale at an evening food market in Phitsanulok.

 

Prior to consumption, the insects are killed and simultaneously sterilized in hot water and then fried. For storage they are either refrigerated or freeze-dried.
